What to Wear
Choose clothing that is comfortable and easy to move around in, as you may be partaking in stretching and other exercises. For instance, If you have a shoulder condition, wear a shirt that is comfortable and allows access to your shoulder and arm. Shorts should be worn if you have hip pain, knee pain, or ankle pain. Closed-toed athletic shoes are the best option if you will be partaking in physical activity at your appointment.
What to Expect
When you walk into River Valley Sports and Physical Therapy, you can expect to be greeted by our friendly receptionist who will check you it. Our therapists value your time, and will start your PT session no later than your scheduled appointment time. All appointments typically last 45 minutes.
How to Prepare
When preparing for your initial physical therapy appointment, be sure to write down details concerning the history of your condition. In doing this, you will be prepared to discuss important information with your therapist. Please arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment, as you will need to fill out a new patient form.
After you and your therapist discuss your condition, your PT will perform an initial examination. They will focus on measuring impairments that may be causing your problem or that may be affected by your injury. Their goal is to familiarize themselves with your condition so they can provide the best treatment plan possible.
Your Treatment Plan
After your initial examination, your therapist will have a good idea of a treatment plan to get you started on. Thorough following of your treatment plan will decrease your pain, improve mobility, and regain normal function. Your physical therapist will discuss with you the goals of treatment and the expected course of your rehab.
Although you may prefer arriving 15 minutes prior to your initial appointment to fill out necessary paperwork, we have also made it available to download and print, thus saving you time and allowing you to thoroughly address the questions and important information regarding your condition. Both the New Patient Form and the Medical History Form are required for your first appointment.
